Several talented local authors will be present over the weekend and are willing to discuss their own books and the writing and publishing process for budding authors. The Fair’s 2013 theme is “Heroes in the Hall” and fundraising is being undertaken to support one of our community heroes – the Assistance Dogs. Two auctions - a Book Auction and a Silent Postcard Auction - are being staged to raise much needed funds for Assistance Dogs (ASDOGS).
ASDOGS is a registered charity that was established in 1997 with the sole purpose of procuring and training Assistance Dogs for people with physical disabilities. ASDOGS’ vision is for people with physical disabilities to function with optimal independence in their own homes, their workplaces and in the wider community. The average program cost for each Assistance Dog is $30,000. With no government funding, ASDOGS rely solely on charitable financial support and volunteer time to progress each dog through its two year puppy raising, advanced training and recipient training programs. All recipients receive their dog free of charge. ASDOGS representatives & their dogs will be on site to meet and greet visitors
